Swaddelling: What is it and how is it done?
Swaddling is a technique of wrapping a newborn baby, and during the first few months of life, so that he or she feels snug and cozy, as if they were in the mother's womb.
The main goal is to calm the baby and help them sleep, but there are other proven benefits.
It helps maintain body temperature, relieves colic, and reduces the Morro reflex (a sensation of falling or startle, very common in the first months of life).
Disadvantages or contraindications
It is not advisable to keep the baby in a swaddle while feeding or when he or she is old enough to roll over.
Another risk of swaddling is overheating, especially on hot days, so it's important to pay attention to the material chosen.
At CACAU you can find cotton muslin and cotton jersey swaddles.
Muslin is lightweight, durable, and super soft, becoming more pliable with washing. It's absorbent, breathable, and moisture-wicking. It's by far the most popular option among moms.
Although it is primarily cotton (95%), Jersey also contains elastane (5%), which makes this fabric stretchy and therefore easier to wear and more practical for swaddles. It is also very soft, although it does not have the absorbency of muslin. It is also cozier and therefore a little warmer.
