Can a summer baby use a swaddle?

One of the biggest concerns for new mothers during warmer seasons is whether their baby is too hot. The best way to check if a baby is overheating is by placing your hand on their back, inside their clothing. You should never assess a baby's temperature by their hands or feet, which are usually cooler.

One of the techniques taught in maternity preparation courses is to put on one more layer of clothing than adults. If the mother wears only one outfit, the baby should wear two.

Swaddling is a technique of wrapping the baby to simulate the comfort of the womb, and one of the contraindications is overheating.

"So, can I or can't I wear a swaddle in the summer?"

Sure, you can ! You just have to combine it with the right amount of clothing. Which could be none at all!

Regarding materials, a jersey swaddle replaces one warm garment, or two pieces of cotton clothing. A warm garment would be a velour pajama or a fur blanket.

A muslin swaddle replaces a cotton garment, such as a babygrow or a cotton blanket.

Cotton blankets are lightweight and airy, making them perfect for summer.

Along with a muslin swaddle, this is all a baby needs for a restful sleep on a warm night.

On a warm night when the baby is sleeping only in a bodysuit and a cotton blanket or thin sheet, you can dress him in just a diaper with a muslin swaddle.

On a moderately warm night when the baby sleeps in a cotton bodysuit and pajamas, the baby can sleep in just a diaper with a jersey swaddle or with the bodysuit and a muslin swaddle.

On a cool night when the baby sleeps in a cotton babygrow and a warm blanket, the baby can sleep in the babygrow and a jersey swaddle.

I hope you find these tips very useful!
